Welsh IT chief in world-class broadband call
By Andy Pearson
THE head of a thoroughbred Welsh IT provider has urged political leaders to ensure that the nation’s new connectivity dream becomes a world class reality.
Teifion Davies, managing director of Swansea-based BSS, was reacting to Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones’ unveiling of the Assembly Government’s new Economic Renewal Programme.
Superfast broadband and industries such as the creative and ICT sectors were among the key elements placed at the heart of economic strategy for the next decade.
Mr Davies, who founded BSS 26 years ago and has Microsoft Gold Partner status, said: “The creative industries and ICT are areas where Wales can excel. However, to compete at the highest level we need world-class high-bandwidth broadband to enable delivery of these services worldwide.
“Both industries attract entrepreneurs and can support companies of any size from sole trader start-ups to multinationals.
“This means that given the right broadband framework and skills Wales can grow smaller companies by competing at any level anywhere in the world.
“Thinking locally, we already have a strong ICT and creative industries educational system and I firmly believe that support for indigenous Welsh businesses should remain a key focus for WAG. After all, these businesses are those most likely to stay in Wales and help grow our economy.”
BSS specialisms include IT support, website design and development, software support, server hosting, document management and mailing services. The company is based in Garngoch, Swansea.
