Lotto Winners Swap Champagne for Shovels
By Effective Communication
National Lottery winners from across the South West yesterday swapped Champagne for shovels, as they got their hands dirty to help out a Bristol community farm.

Winners worth in excess of £15 million helped to re-fence animal pens and clear ponds at the farm, which aims to improve the quality of life for local people, both young and old.
The winners that took part include one of the earliest National Lottery winners, Elaine and Derek Thompson, who won £2.7million in 1995 on their 17th wedding anniversary. They were joined by Edd and Michelle Edwards, from Yeovil, who won £1.9million in 2008, Andrea Holmes, from Devizes who won £2.5million in 2002, Mike Antonucci, from Plymouth, who won £2.8million in 1995, Annette and Terry Rooke, from Reading, who won £2.5 million in 2007, and the Bradley family from Llanelli in South Wales, who shared a £3.5 million win in 2006.

The farm, on the Lawrence Weston estate in Bristol, works with members of the local community to provide a range of educational, social, environmental, economic and recreational activities.
As well as providing opportunities to experience the daily delights of community farming and gardening, the farm also promotes environmental awareness; encourages healthy eating and exercise; produces fresh, affordable local food; brings people and communities together; and delivers education and skill development.
During their activity day, the millionaire volunteers helped farm managers to build new animal pens for some of the pigs and goats kept on the farm, as well as painting fences, and tidying up the vegetable garden.

Community Development Worker at the farm, Ian Fielder, said: “We’re delighted that lottery winners from across the region came along to lend us a hand. All the work they did will be of great benefit to the local community here at Lawrence Weston, it is a fantastic outdoor space in a very urban area, and we hope the winners enjoyed their day here.”
