New era for Welsh radio favourite

By Andy Pearson

A new radio station is coming to Neath Port Talbot next month.

XS is due to launch on January 7, replacing Afan FM, which has served the county borough since 2007.

A phased transition will see test transmissions as XS works towards becoming “Neath & Port Talbot’s Hit Music Station,” continuing Afan FM’s focus on listeners aged 15-34.

The station’s Craig Williams – who founded Afan FM – told me: “We’ll continue to champion local issues through a local news and information service both on air and online.

Oversee

Craig will oversee the XS launch as chairman and station manager.

He said: “As much as it breaks my heart to say goodbye to Afan FM, XS marks a new chapter. XS will be a bigger, better alternative for listeners, advertisers and the wider community.”

XS is licensed as the community radio station and is owned and operated by Neath Port Talbot Broadcasting as a not-for-profit community
enterprise.
