Communication skills put to good use
By Andy Pearson
The expanding team of former Swansea journalists looking to make their living away from the media has a new recruit.
After 16 years as a reporter and sub-editor on titles such as the Glamorgan Gazette, Rhymney Valley Express and South Wales Evening Post, Jonathan Howells has launched a sole trader business as a proofreader.
As the local media scene undergoes its biggest ever change, Jonathan’s colleagues have moved into many other areas, including PR, marketing, research, analysis and teaching.
Effective Communication itself benefits from around a century’s worth of journalism experience within its workforce.
Jonathan’s a talented words and grammar technician and should do well in his chosen new occupation.
Importance
His biggest challenge could be convincing businesses and other would-be clients of the importance of good wordcraft in all their literature.
At his leaving bash in the No Sign Bar, Swansea, on Saturday night he expressed a determination to do this.
Those giving him support on the night included Evening Post sports writer Gareth Vincent, environment writer Richard Youle, sports editor Liam Sullivan, news desk man Alex Brown, former colleague Stephen Lisle, Llanelli Star editor Bede MacGowan and sports writer Stephen Ware.
Good luck, Jonathan!
