Young radio station beds in
By Andy Pearson
A month into its new life, Neath Port Talbot’s community radio station is quickly finding its feet.
XS was formerly Afan FM, undergoing a radical image revamp over the new year period.
Check out the website – www.xswales.com – to see the new branding and to tune in online.
The station remains very much targeted at the young people’s market, playlist favourites including Diddy Dirty Money, Jessie J, JLS, Britney Spears and Kesha.
A typical Monday schedule features non-stop music through the night across Neath and Port Talbot, a presenter-free breakfast show with hit music and local information, discussions of local issues, more music from the 90’s and Noughties, traffic and travel info, request, showbiz gossip and an urban beats show.
Important
For two major Welsh towns without their own local weekly newspaper these days, the station is important to the community.
XS is owned and operated by Neath Port Talbot Broadcasting as a not-for-profit community enterprise.
Craig Williams, Afan FM’s founder, returned to oversee the new launch as XS chairman and managing director.
He told me: “As much as it broke my heart to say goodbye to Afan FM, XS marks a new chapter in our history.
“It’s a bigger, better alternative for listeners and the wider community. XS is well on its way to becoming everyone’s favourite new station.”
It’s also very useful for those businesses wishing to spread their message across Neath Port Talbot. Don’t ignore XS if that’s where part of your audience may be.
