Can media campaign help?
By Andy Pearson
Swansea lost a battle this week – but citizens still seem eager to win the war.
Having seen the UK Government agree rail electrification from London only as far as Cardiff, residents of the second city were miffed.
They claim the decision represents a missed opportunity to boost the economic regeneration of south west Wales.
Now it seems that the Evening Post, still enormously influential across Swansea, is planning a campaign to right the wrong.
Media campaigns can be effective but they’re resource sapping. So could the newspaper have a positive impact on this issue?
Well let’s hope so.
But the one thing above all else the reporters and editors will need is strong support from the community.
That will mean creative backing in the hunt for ideas, moral support in business and individuals shouting up and practical involvement when the time comes to act.
Good luck to the Evening Post on this one.
In the meantime, on a trip to Cardiff this Friday I’ll be taking the Greyhound.
