Rod rallies to Wales’ PR cause
By Andy Pearson
Say what you like about Rod Stewart but you can’t deny that he’s good for South Wales.
Great hot legs will be strutting his stuff at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea, this summer and the publicity machine is in overdrive.
This week alone I’ve had two substantial email circulars sing his praises: one was direct from the stadium’s promotions people, the other was from marketing agency Swansea Bay Futures.
The event already has a high profile in the South Wales Evening Post and on radio stations Swansea Sound and The Wave.
It was the same in previous years when the arena was visited by The Who, Elton John and Pink.
Whisper it, but boyband JLS step out this summer too and they’re likely to draw a huge crowd.
Big names naturally attract attention – and that’s good news for Wales.
More specifically in Rod’s case, the Liberty is becoming known as a destination of the stars.
Swansea is keeping good company and it’s important that big gigs become a key part of the city’s future marketing strategy.
