Website power remains crucial
By Andy Pearson
In business’s headlong race towards improved use of social media, no enterprise should forget their website.
Indeed, as a key function of Twitter and Facebook usage is to drive traffic to the website, perhaps extra love and affection should be given to this resource.
A company website remains the main online shop window. Social media is, more often than not, the signposting towards that window display.
All are inextricably linked – and a fine example of moving with the times can be found as the 2011 FIM Speedway Grand Prix prepares for launch.
It should be a fabulously competitive campaign across Europe from this Saturday to early October, and the GB leg in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium will be a noisy, adrenaline-fuelled high point.
So how have tournament organisers BSI Speedway approached their new website?
Well, importantly, it looks exciting, it’s full of great content and it drives users across its sister web platforms.
The look
They’re continuing the gladiatorial theme which has served them so well in recent years. There’s a dramatic crack of lightning at the top of the home page and a nice big key elment which scrolls the main news updates. Structurally it’s beautifully simple, with clear tabs and useful panels. The imagery does the talking and there are non-nonsense links through to the tournament’s Twitter and Facebook feeds.
The content
Exceptional! Sports fans crave stats – and there are plenty of these tucked away behind the right buttons. Just check out the page for great British hope Chris Harris – click. There’s top quality video, powerful photography and plenty of bright news and features. Content remains king!
The connections
Quite rightly, there are direct click-throughs to key sponsors. But also, the web design team has gone the extra mile with elements such as links to the 2011 race calendar with ticket details and the Fantasy Speedway game.
