Good week for Scarlets PR
By Andy Pearson
The Scarlets PR machine did a neat job this week as the rugby region’s big changeover took place.
As director Nigel Short took over as chairman from long-serving Huw Evans, the media coverage was very useful indeed.
In what appears to have been a nicely managed press release exercise, the Scarlets hit the right targets at the right times.
BBC Sport Online carried the news last night (Tuesday) – click here – and today it appeared in key media the Llanelli Star, the South Wales Evening Post and the Western Mail.
Excellence
It’s a good start for the new chairman who has a reputation for excellence in all his business dealings.
And even at this early stage he’s rightly being careful about his public pronouncements.
Whilst being upbeat, he is quoted as saying: “I do not intend to over-promise and under-deliver.”
Sensible
In the over-hyped world of professional sport that’s a sensible statement. It suggests a long-term approach to building for the future – and that can only be the good thing for the Scarlets as some rivals adopt an approach that’s far too short-termist.
Good luck, Nigel!
