Local radio salutes community heroes

By Andy Pearson

Hundreds of people packed into Swansea’s Patti Pavilion last night for the annual Local Hero awards organised by radio stations The Wave and Swansea Sound.

The event was another indication that the local media retains hits place at the heart of the community.

It also gave ample opportunity to salute awards nominees who go out of their way to do something special for their locality.

Onesuch is Thomas Todd who has raised £20,000 for the fight against leukaemia.

Charity

On Swansea Sound this morning, he said: “I’ve held two charity football matches and I’m now organising my second boxing night; there’s lots more money to raise!”

Eurovision band Blue were among the celeb performers at last night’s show.

They presented the Child of Courage award to Shannon Louise Rawlings.

Amazing

Morning show presenter Kev Johns said: “It was an amazing night, packed full of celebrities and amazing winners.”

Categories included: Teacher of The Year,  Young Achiever of The Year and Contribution to The Community.

Sponsors included Llanelli-based media firm Tinopolis, Swansea brewer Tomos Watkin and Jenkins Bakery.

 Congratulations to all involved.
