Super Swans excite Post
By Andy Pearson
Sporting success is one of those treasures that local papers often cover well.
They have unique relationship with the clubs they follow – and a special relationship with the fans.
So it’s good to report that Swansea’s leading print publication, the South Wales Evening Post, is pulling out the stops to enjoy Swansea’s City’s push for the Premiership.
Play-offs
In case you haven’t noticed, the Swans – like Cardiff City – have qualified to compete in The Championship’s end-of-season play-offs.
The winner from the four play-off clubs will graduate to the world’s richest soccer division. A heady prospect but one that’s very achievable by Brendan Rodgers’ squad.
From Monday, the Post’s editorial department plan to dedicate at least three pages to the Swans until their fate is sealed.
Excitement
A senior exec at the paper told me: “There’s huge excitement at the prospect of the Swans being promoted and we want to play a huge part.
“Whether you love or hate football, you can’t ignore the fact that everyone in Swansea is talking about their team.
“We’re confident that our coverage will be avidly read.”
Unique
Of course, it also brings a unique chance for businesses to hook up to the feelgood factor through either advertising on the Swans pages or by volunteering their thoughts to journalists who will be looking for bright football-related stories.
Let the good times roll!
