Wyn’s waxing lyrical

By Andy Pearson

Time flies when you’re having fun, and that seems to have been the case at Swansea Life recently.
The lifestyle glossy’s May edition reminds us that it’s a whole two years since the title was relaunched by the people who publish the city’s daily newspaper, the South Wales Evening Post.

Time flies when you’re having fun, and that seems to have been the case at Swansea Life recently.

They had bought the name after its previous owners had moved on.

Welcome

Editor Wyn Jenkins tells us in his latest welcome note: “We have refocused to target a female marketplace and boosted our coverage of sections such as fashion, health and beauty, home and garden.”

His new 170-page edition also carries four pages looking back at key issues covered in previous issues.

The June 2009 cover story was the engagement of then Swans manager Roberto Martinez to Beth Thomson.

Premier

As the edition hit the streets he took the manager’s job at Premier League Wigan Athletic. Swansea Life admits: “Our coverage of the wedding gets scaled back!”

The September 2009 issue starred Michael Sheen on the cover. He told the mag how local support had underpinned his Hollywood rise.

This was borne out further still by last month’s incredible three-day live production of The Passion in Port Talbot, featuring Sheen in the lead role.

Celebs

The celebs to have graced the front page include footballer Lee Trundle (back with Swansea City in Oct 2009), Bonnie Tyler (Nov 2009), Katherine Jenkins (Dec 2009 & Jan 2011), Kylie Minogue (Aug 2010), Catherine Zeta Jones ( Nov 2010).

Less attractive, some would say, is an image on the latest page nine. It shows Wyn himself having his chest waxed for Comic Relief. And it looks painful.

Still, keep up the good work, Wyn!
