Could Swansea’s premier push start here?

By Andy Pearson

Nobody yet has publicly come forward as the standard bearer for a possible national campaign to promote Swansea as the premier 2011-12 destination.

With the city’s football club having done its significant bit to put Swansea in the spotlight, it’s up to others to ensure the opportunity is maximised.

Recent weeks have seen statements of that nature from a wide range of individuals and organisations, from the local council to business bodies and from the Welsh Secretary to bloggers.

Together

But nobody yet has stood up and said: “I’ll be the one to knock a few heads together!”

There’s the danger that, without such a bold initial move, this incredible chance could be lost.

And – especially with the economy as it is – that would be close to criminal.

Change

Perhaps things could change this week when members of the Swansea Bay Futures Network  meet at the city’s Grape and Olive (Wednesday, 5pm).

The Network’s Dawn Lyle – of architectural visualisation specialists iCreate – said: “It’s been a busy few months since our last meeting … and now it’s time for the Swansea Bay Futures (SBF) annual get-together.”

SBF exists to “promote the Swansea Bay region as a place to live, work, study, invest in and visit” – so could this be the fulcrum around which premier destination activity could spin?

Dawn continues: “Every year, Swansea Bay Futures hosts an informal event to update partners, associates and members of the Network about what SBF has been up to.

Talk

“There’s lots to talk about, in particular the role that we’ll be playing in helping to maximise the benefits of the new Bay Science & Innovation Campus for the city, the recent Swans promotion, and an update on the activities of the SBF Network.”

Those who wish to attend and those who have constructive things to say about the city capitalising on Premier League ststus should email Dawn – dawn@icreate3d.com.
