By Effective Communication

Growing South Wales firm McAlister & Co has made a key new senior appointment.

Simon Barriball has joined them as insolvency manager. His specialisms include helping small businesses overcome tough financial difficulties.

The 29-year-old will be based at McAlister’s Swansea headquarters and in their office at Ystrad Mynach, near Caerphilly.

An accountancy and finance graduate of Aberystwyth University, Simon has eight years of strong experience in business recovery, working across South Wales and the South West with high-profile insolvency specialists BN Jackson Norton and Benedict Mackenzie.

He said: “I’m excited to be joining McAlister & Co; they’re a young firm with a real focus on business turnarounds and with great ambition to develop and grow.

“I know the MD, Sandra McAlister, really well having worked with her for several years from 2003. We have a profound mutual professional respect and I look forward to helping her drive the business forward.”

Sandra McAlister said: “We’re delighted to have Simon on board. He’s an ambitious insolvency practitioner with great drive and professionalism.

“He’s exceptionally thorough in everything he does and I expect him to make a big difference to the clients we serve.

“The economy is such that we’ve seen a substantial increase in the number of SMEs coming to us for assistance. Our first aim is to keep them trading and to help them build for the future – but we also have a heavy caseload of bankruptcies and individual voluntary agreements (IVAs).

“The secret for business people is to come to us as soon as possible before predicted financial difficulties become uncomfortable reality.”

Simon, whose leisure interests include training in judo and kung fu, lives in Cardiff.
